My LaMaster Family

This LaMaster family descends from John and Sarah LeMaster and their son Abraham. Abraham was born on the Isle of Jersey about 1639 and died in St. Mary’s Co. (now Charles Co.), Maryland on December 6, 1722. Below is a picture of his great-great grandson, Benjamin James LaMaster (1827-1900). The place of Abraham’s birth and the names of his parents are established by the following depositions on file in Charles County, Maryland.

Transcription: #1: At the request of John LeMaster of Charles County, planter, the two following depositions were recorded this 9th day of March anno domini 1720 – viz John Noe aged twenty-one or thereabouts deposeth on the Holy Evangel of Almighty God that he heard Justinian Tennison say that he was born in Weymouth in the Kingdom of England and further this Despondent saith not. Sworn this the June 1720 before us. [Witness] [Witness]

Transcription #2: Abraham Lemaistre the son of John and Sarah Lemaistre, aged eighty-one years or thereabouts does deposeth upon the Holy Evangel of Almightly God that he was born in the old Jerseys in the Parish of St. Maries and further this despondent saith not. Sworn before us this Twenty Seventh Day of June anno domini 1720.

Benjamin James LaMaster, great, great, great grandson of Abraham (1639-1722)

Benjamin James LaMaster, son of Abraham and Letitia (Tyler) LaMaster

Benjamin James LaMaster, son of Abraham and Letitia (Tyler) LaMaster, was born 10 Jan 1827 in Henry County, Kentucky and died 02 Feb 1900 in Henry County, Kentucky. He is buried in the Campbellsburg Cemetery, Henry County, Kentucky.  He married Sophronia Scott on 16 Jan 1852 in Henry County, Kentucky. Benjamin and Sophronia had six children including Martha Lee LaMaster.

Martha Lee (LaMaster) Hill Pyles

Martha “Mattie” Lee (LaMaster) Hill Pyles, daughter of Benjamin James LaMaster

Martha “Mattie” Lee LaMaster was the daughter of Sophronia (Scott)  and Benjamin James LaMaster. Mattie married Horace William Hill 09 Sep 1885 in Campbellsburg, Henry County, Kentucky. They had one daughter and five sons who lived past infancy. Horace died 17 Aug 1901 in Henry County, Kentucky. Mattie remarried John Breckinridge Pyles. They had one daughter (Martha Vaughn Pyles, later Wills) who lived to adulthood and one son who died in infancy. One of the sons of Mattie and Horace was William Weldon Hill who married Bernice Harlan.

William Weldon Hill

William Weldon Hill, son of Martha “Mattie” (LaMaster) and Horace William Hill

William Weldon Hill was the oldest son and second oldest child of Mattie LaMaster and Mattie’s first husband,  Horace William Hill. He married Bernice Harlan, daughter of Edgar Leslie and Margaret (Maggie) Beall (Flood) Harlan. Weldon and Bernice had two children, Weldon Harlan Hill and Horace Edgar Hill.
