Harlan
Family
|
 |
Ed’s
paternal grandmother was Bernice Harlan. Her family can be
traced back to William Harland who was the grandfather of
Michael and George. We are descended from both Michael and
George as a result of the marriage of cousins early on. Michael
and his brother George were yoeman farmers typically looking for
better land. Michael and George were, or became Quakers and
migrated to northern Ireland, presumably as part of the
Anglo-Scottish "colonization" of that troubled area begun by
Oliver Cromwell. They moved to the New World after George's
marriage to Elizabeth Duck in Shankill, Ireland on September 17,
1678, and settled in Pennsylvania in Chester Co. about 1687.
Michael Harlan married Dinah Dixon, daughter of Henry Dixon.
They afterward removed into London Grove Township, where Michael
died June 1729. |

| Ed’s great grandfather, Edgar
Leslie Harlan, married Margaret "Maggie" Beall Flood. This
family traces its roots from John Flood who was born in England
about 1695 and settled in Buckingham Co., Virginia.
